Position:

We are looking to for Junior Legal Consultant to be based out of the Firm’s headquarters in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Reports to: Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director, Heads of Practice Group and Deputy Head of Practice Group

Key external relationships: Clients, Government Ministries, Chambers of Commerce, Business Associations

Key internal relationships: Partners, Managing Director, Senior Managers and all staff of the Cambodia Office

Working Hour: Mon-Fri, 8am 12pm and 2pm 6pm

Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Main duties of the role:

Following are the key responsibilities and duties that will be expected of the Legal Consultant position within the firm:

a) Report to and take instruction from the Partner, the Managing Director/Deputy Managing Director, the Co-Heads of Banking, Finance and Technology Practice Group;

b) Provide legal advice exclusively on behalf of the Firm and to clients of the Firm;

c) Assist the Banking, Finance amp; Technology team on legal due diligence exercise, such as reviewing necessary licenses/approvals in the banking/finance/insurance industry as well as conducting review of financing related documents;

d) Assist the Banking, Finance amp; Technology team on every kind of financing transactions, including drafting loan and security agreements, drafting legal opinions, and generally assisting the closing of the financing matters;

e) Assist the Banking, Finance amp; Technology team in undertaking legal research, drafting legal memo, and other legal instruments related to banking, finance amp; technology matters/transactions;

f) Provide technical support to advisers in the Business Unit(s)/Practice Groups(s) to which you are assigned;

g) Liaise with government officers at various ministries and government departments as required;

h) Draft and review fee proposals and keep accurate time records;

i) Prepare presentation materials in Khmer and English;

j) Translate documents from Khmer to English and vice versa;

k) Manage the update and maintenance of knowledge management resources;

l) Participate in professional management, business development and Firm administrative activities as requested; and

m) Undertake other duties as may be required of you from time to time.

Requirements

  • Holds a Degree of Law or a Bachelor of Laws with at least five years relevant work experience;
  • Has the ability to draft contracts, letters of advice and legal opinions in both English and/or Khmer to a high standard;
  • An out-of-the-box thinker, highly adaptable to a dynamic environment;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to interact effectively and collaboratively both internally and externally; knowledge of French/Chinese is a plus.
  • Has an enthusiastic attitude towards building a career;
  • Demonstrates the ability to take the initiative and pay close attention to detail;
  • Honesty, reliability, and a commitment to strict confidentiality;
  • Is self-motivated and committed to self-improvement; and
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office suite.
