Job Description

The HALO Trust’s mission is: To lead the effort to save lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines but is increasingly involved in the disposal of other explosive ordnance and weapon control.

When you become a Field Officer in HALO, you join a team with a shared commitment to making a difference in some of the most vulnerable communities in the world. HALO offers a full training package for the role of Field Officer, so you do not require previous knowledge of landmine clearance or ordnance disposal. We want people who have a sense of adventure but are responsible and mature. We are looking for leaders who are resilient and self-motivated to command our teams and manage operations.

HALO’s Field Officers work across our programmes in various roles and with significant responsibilities. You will need the aptitude to be able to work in dynamic and challenging environments and you should have proven management and leadership skills. The HALO training course will prepare you for deployment to one of our programmes where you could be commanding between 250 and 1,000 local employees. As part of the Field Officer training course, you will receive broad based training which includes mine clearance, basic explosive ordnance disposal and minefield survey as well as other skills such as finance, logistics, security and quality management. This will prepare you for work in the programme, that ranges from equipment auditing and writing reports and proposals, to repairing vehicles and managing clearance operations.

Working for HALO is hugely rewarding. It is also physically and mentally challenging, for example working in remote locations and living in very basic conditions. You will be based overseas and as an international employee, you must be flexible and be willing to be posted to any of HALO's programmes. You can see where our programmes are located at www.halotrust.org

You will work and live with other international staff and work with people from various cultures and backgrounds, so you will need exceptional interpersonal skills.

Working for HALO offers significant personal and professional development, and we offer employees further training and development to support their career progression. HALO is committed to ensuring the health, well-being and human rights of all staff, partners and beneficiaries, and to provide a safe and trusted environment for anyone who comes in to contact with our work, but we do expect you to be tough and resilient.

No two days working for HALO are ever the same. With a variety of job roles and locations, life is never dull. Working for HALO is demanding but if you genuinely want the opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives, it could be the job for you.

HALO requires its applicants to work in line with our values, which are:

  • Courage
  • Discipline
  • Integrity
  • Respect for Others
  • Loyalty
  • Selfless Commitment

In addition to confirming that you can meet these values, job offers are subject to two satisfactory references and a criminal records check.

Please provide a one page cover letter which details your suitability against the essential person specification and no more than a two page CV in English. Any applications which exceed these limits will not be considered.

PLEASE NOTE, WE HAVE COMPLETED RECRUITMENT FOR THIS ROLE BUT ARE CREATING A POOL OF SUITABLE CANDIDATES WITH A VIEW TO COMMENCE THE INTERVIEW PROCESS IN 2021.
